The Heartbeat of Christianity

By: Pastor Mark Stephens

The heartbeat of Christianity is COMFORT, PEACE, AND JOY! Everyone is seeking after these things. It's what you took TO not IN to find comfort, peace, and joy. Many folk look in the wrong places for these. Remember the song, "Looking for love in all the wrong places.?"

You can find it all in JESUS! He wants to bring comfort, peace, and joy to your life. I fyou're down and lonely and feel like no one cares, pay close attention to the Word of God because it will inspire you, it will bless you and something will happen on the inside of you.

John 14:15-17 "If ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you."

Jesus is speaking to His disciples just before He goes to Calvary and is raised from the dead and takes His place a the right hand of His Father. He tells them, "I will not leave you comfortless. I will send you another Comforter and He will abide with you forever."

John 16:7 "I tell you the truth, it is more expedient that I go away. " Expedient means profitable. He is telling them it will be better if He goes away, that is why Jesus said, "I tell you the truth." They didn't understand because for the last three years their every need was met. They were having the time of their lives seeing miracles up close and personal, and hearing the Word of God preached from The Living Word of God.

When Jesus said "another Comforter" that implies that the next Comforter will do the same thing the first one did. Jesus was their comforter. Apart from Him, they had no comfort, not ability to overcome adversity. They had to be in His presence.

Why would it be better? While Jesus was on earth, He could only be in one place at one time, but when the Holy Spirit came He would abide with them all the time.

If you have asked Jesus into your heart, the Holy Spirit becomes your abiding comforter. He will never leave you or forsake you. You are not alone! The Holy Spirit is there for you during good times and yes, even the bad times. When you are feeling low and depressed, call out to Him and He is there for you. You must learn to draw from Him. How? You must fellowship with Him!

The Holy Spirit is your Holy Guest. He is with you at all times! He wants you to draw from His ministry as Comforter. he will not push Himself in, He has to be invited. Satan is the exact opposite he barges in with or without an invitation. He is the ultimate party crasher!

Another thing that Jesus left us was Peace. Not just any peace, but HIS peace! Philippians 4:7 AMP says, "And God's peace [shall be yours, that tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and being content with its earthly lot of whatever sort that is, that peace] which transcends all understanding shall garrison and mount guard over your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus."

John 15:11 "These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full."

There is no reason for a believer to be in a state of depression, oppression or worry when we have the promise of the Lord Jesus that He will give another Comforter, His peace and His joy.

You can have comfort peace and joy. You have access to it right this moment. You may not "feel" joy, peace, or comfort, but you can't live by what you feel. You must live the Word of God. You have to base your life on the authority of God's Word.

You need a positive attitude. Why? You have comfort, peace, and joy! That is what the world is looking for. They're looking in the wrong places (drugs, alcohol, sex, etc.) These things always leave a void. You'll continue to look, but when you find Jesus, not religion, He will bring with Him, comfort, peace and joy and I guarantee that there will be no void in your life.

Faith is not being moved by what you see or feel. Happiness and joy should not be based on your circumstances but what the Word says.

Each day confess that this is the day that the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it. Notice that it is YOUR will to rejoice. You will have opportunities to worry and not have peace, but know that no weapon formed against you shall prosper. Nothing the enemy has can harm you.

God wants you happy. In fact, He wants you joyful! He wants this so much for you that He sent His only son to die on a cruel cross to redeem you and me and buy us back. The price: HIS PRECIOUS BLOOD!
